MBBS, MSc (Surgical Sciences), FRACS (Vascular Surgery)
Dr Samiul Islam is an Australian trained vascular and endovascular surgeon providing specialist care in Sydney and the South Coast. He completed surgical training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) specialist training program and was awarded Fellowship (FRACS) in Vascular Surgery.
His training included appointments at major tertiary hospitals across Australia and New Zealand including Auckland City Hospital, Wellington Regional Hospital, St George Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital.
Prior to his move from the United Kingdom, Dr Islam had completed a Masters in Surgical Skills & Sciences with Distinction from Barts & The London School of Medicine and worked in the Vascular Surgery department at The Royal London Hospital.
Dr Islam holds academic appointments at the University of Notre Dame School of Medicine and the medical school of the Australian National University (ANU). He is actively involved in teaching medical students and junior doctors in vascular surgery and clinical decision making. His clinical approach emphasises evidence-based practice with careful assessment, shared decision making, and selection of the most appropriate treatment pathway for each individual patient.
Most vascular conditions do not require surgery. Many can be managed conservatively, with intervention recommended when potential benefits outweigh risks.
Management is guided by clinical assessment, imaging findings, and individual patient factors. Where intervention is required, options are discussed clearly, including risks, benefits and alternatives.
